What is the Phase 2 Application Period?

The initial application period was for those wishing to apply to Inc. Magazine's 2017 Inc. 5000 and Seminole 100. That application period closed April 30, 2017. However, we are still taking applications for those who only wish to apply to Seminole 100.

All applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed by Inc. Magazine as we utilize their services for calculating the adjusted growth rate of eligible businesses.

FSU alumni can apply at a discounted rate by entering the exclusive promo code "FSUAlum." Please note, all applications received on or after May 1, 2017 will only be eligible for the Seminole 100 list. If you submitted an application during the intial campaign period (before, or on April 30, 2017) then you remain eligible to be named to both the Inc. 5000 and Seminole 100 lists.

Please be aware the criteria to apply during Phase 2 is as follows:

  • Be the Owner, CEO, or Managing Partner and attended Florida State University
    • Applicants must select "Florida State University" when applying in order for Inc. to identify they are applying for Seminole 100.
  • Have generated revenue by March 31, 2013
  • Have generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2013
  • Have generated at least $500,000 in revenue in 2016
  • Be privately held, for profit, based in U.S., and independent (not a subsidiary or division of another company)

Why does the Seminole 100 website say applications are due May 31, 2017, when Inc.'s application page says they were due May 1, 2017?

As mentioned above, we extended our application period for those who are only interested in applying to Seminole 100. As Inc.'s partner they have allowed us to continue utilizing their application page to receive all applications, however Inc. did not adjust the appearance of the webpage.

That is why the due date still appears as May 1, 2017. Please disregard the date and continue with your application.

His vision for the Jim Moran Institute was to provide opportunities that would help others become more successful business owners. To ensure the integrity and credibility of the list, Inc. 5000 carefully verifies the 2013 and 2016 revenue numbers for every applicant. Submitting documentation early will ensure accurate coverage.

Does my revenue and financial information remain private?

You will share detailed revenue and financial records with Inc. Magazine who will use these documents to calculate your ranking in the list. The only information that will be made public by Inc. Magazine and Seminole 100 upon announcing the lists is your company's 3-year growth rate and 3-year revenue average.

When will I know if my company made the lists?

August 2017: Inc. 5000 notifies companies who were selected as honorees.

August 2017: We will notify companies who were selected as Seminole 100 honorees.

Can my company be named to Seminole 100, but not Inc. 5000?

Yes. It is likely there will be businesses that do not make the Inc. 5000 list, but will be named as Seminole 100 honorees.

For example, the top 90 businesses from Seminole 100 could earn spots on the Inc. 5000, but the final 10 might not have a growth rate high enough to earn them a spot on the list. They would still be selected as Seminole 100 honorees, as our list only considers Seminole-owned businesses.

How do I promote the great news about my business if I made the list?

Visit our Media Kit where we've provided multiple resources to help you spread the word about your business.

Why is the Seminole 100 celebration in 2018 if I'm applying to the 2017 list?

We are holding the celebration in the Spring of 2018 to provide time for honorees to request time off from work, arrange travel, book lodging and adjust their schedule in order to be able to attend the celebration.

Am I required to attend the Seminole 100 celebration in order to be named to the list?

No. We would love to see you there, but it's not required. The only honoree that is required to attend the celebration in order to be named to the list will be the company that receives the #1 ranking.

Are tickets available for the celebration event?

Yes, tickets will go on sale this summer. If you have questions beforehand contact us at info@seminole100.fsu.edu.
